Here I am, Send me. A daily devotional for August 8, 2025

Scripture

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” - Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)

This is one of my absolute favorite verses. It reminds me to be that voice who calls back and really follows God and His will. In our busy lives, it’s easy to lose sight of our true calling as followers of Christ. Today, let’s reflect on the powerful statement “Here I am, send me.” This phrase reminds us of our unique purpose: to be God’s hands and feet, showing His love through our actions and serving those around us. This devotional invites you to discover how you can actively answer God’s call, embrace service, and create meaningful change in your community.

The Call to Action

The phrase “Here I am, send me” originates from Isaiah 6:8, where the prophet Isaiah openly responds to God’s invitation. This moment highlights a commitment to serve, rather than simply acknowledging existence. Each time we declare “send me,” we make a promise to engage in God’s mission on Earth.

Every day, we meet opportunities to help and love others. For instance, a simple act like bringing groceries to an elderly neighbor can make a world of difference. Volunteering at a local food bank can feed dozens of families. These acts, whether big or small, allow us to fulfill God’s work with purpose and passion.

Think about your daily life. Is there a chance for you to step up and say, “Here I am, send me”?

Being the Hands and Feet of God

Being the hands and feet of God means understanding that our actions can create profound change in others' lives. Each small act can set off a chain of kindness. For example, if you help a struggling friend with their workload, they may feel empowered to assist someone else in trouble.

As Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” This highlights the importance of serving others as a direct reflection of serving God. Consider how many lives you can touch by being intentional about your service. It doesn’t require grand gestures; even a kind word can brighten someone’s day.

The Power of Love

Love lies at the heart of our calling. In John 13:34-35, Jesus instructs us to love one another as He loves us. This love is a verb; it compels us to show compassion, understanding, and encouragement to those around us.

When we embody this love, we become channels of God’s grace. Our words and deeds can help heal the brokenhearted, comfort the weary, and instill hope in those who despair. Research shows that small acts of kindness can boost our mood and strengthen communities. Indeed, studies indicate that communities with high levels of encouragement see a 20% increase in overall well-being.

As you navigate your day, think of ways to express love. Maybe it’s a warm smile, a genuine compliment, or a small, thoughtful gesture.

Overcoming Obstacles

While the call to serve is clear, many obstacles can hinder our willingness to respond. Feelings of fear, self-doubt, or busyness can impede our commitment to God’s work.

It's crucial to remember God’s promise in Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” By relying on Him, we can overcome our fears and doubts, embracing the roles He has laid out for us.

Take some time to reflect on what may be holding you back from saying “Here I am, send me.” Pray for the strength and courage to move past these barriers and trust God's purpose for your life.

Embracing Our Calling

As we reflect on this devotional, let’s pledge to actively engage in God’s work. Saying “Here I am, send me” should become a way of life. It means being open to His guidance and ready to serve others with love.

Remember, each day is filled with opportunities to fulfill this calling, beginning with our simple willingness to respond.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for inviting us to be Your hands and feet in this world. Help us respond with joyful hearts, ready to serve and love those around us. Give us the strength to overcome any fear or doubt, guiding us in fulfilling Your work. May our actions reflect Your love and grace, bringing hope and healing to many lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.

As we approach the weekend, carry this conviction in your heart. Be intentional about how you love and assist those in need. Remember, every small act contributes to God’s greater work. Here I am, send me!

Here I am. Send me. Let's love one another as he first loved us.
Here I am. Send me. Let's love one another as he first loved us.
